A sample of your tumour tissue will be requested and shipped to a laboratory.
An expert pathologist will analyse the biopsy and prepare a report within 5 days of sample delivery.
Pathology review offers an independent second opinion on biopsy results to ensure the most reliable diagnosis of cancer subtypes. For each cancer type, various subtypes exist, and each requires a different treatment strategy. Having your tumour tissue analysed by an international network of expert pathologists will help ensure correct interpretation and appropriate treatment.
Accurately identifying the type of cancer is crucial for the effectiveness of subsequent treatment. Recent research indicates that the rate of misdiagnoses is significantly higher than previously believed. Knowing that independent specialists have verified their diagnosis gives patients and their families additional peace of mind during a stressful and uncertain time.
Any patient who has received a cancer diagnosis and wishes to have their biopsy sample re-evaluated for peace of mind or to confirm the accuracy of their diagnosis can have their sample reviewed. The patient is required to have a sample of their tumour tissue and to consent to it being requested from the doctor/hospital where it was taken. The sample will be returned to its place of origin after the assessment.
